About Altinkum
Altinkum is found on the west Aegean coast of Turkey. One hour from Kusadasi, 1.5 hours from the peninsula of Bodrum and just 1.5 hours from Turkey's third largest city, Izmir. The locals can only be described as 'laid back' and their attitude towards tourists is relaxed. You will become acquainted with them quickly and you will find yourself having a nice chat over Turkey's famed apple tea.Just outside Altinkum, is Didim where the ancient ruins of the famous Apollo Temple can be found. The porch of the temple originally held an amazing 120 columns! Ancient Didyma or Didim was not a town, but simply the home of a god and his priest. Found within the temple grounds are the fragments of the rich decoration which was present there, including a striking head of Medusa.

Beaches
Altinkum literally means ‘golden sands’ and it's not hard to see why when you see it's gentle sloping beach, dipping into the enticing turquoise blue Aegean Sea. There are many water sports in Altinkum adding to this superb beach life, but there are pedals for those who prefer a slower pace of life. Umbrellas and sun beds can be rented and once you are settled there is no need for you to move until sunset. Diving, sailing and waterskiing are available.
Nightlife
There is a lively nightlife at Altinkum and particularly on the promenade there are dozens of nightclubs and bars. They stay open throughout the season until the small hours; It is not unheard of to see happy tourists leaving the nightclubs at 3am. Along with the many restaurants and cafes available, refreshments and food will not be far away.
Lifestyle
The pace of life is a little slower away from the beach. The main centre of Altinkum is Dolphin square, where you will stumble across the many shops, bars, traditional Turkish restaurants and non-traditional restaurants, offering Indian, Italian, Chinese, British. Bizim Ora Cafe Bar is a popular one and has a variety of events happening in the week including Bingo, Dominoes, Darts and Karaoke. It is run by a Turkish family with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, catering for both cultures.
Shopping
There are three large Supermarket chains in Altinkum, making shopping good, with all of them competing for your business meaning prices are kept low. There are also hundreds of shops selling everything you could ever need. In Turkey, gold seems to be almost as good as currency; there are an unbelievable amount of jewellery shops here, with pure gold jewellery being sold at very fair prices.
Weather
Altinkum has hot summers and mild winters, which is a typical Mediterranean climate, with temperatures rising above 30ºC (86ºF) frequently in July and August. Rain is unlikely in the summer months, but can be quite high in winter.
